Global Communities: What attracted you to Global Communities?
Ramya Srinivasan: I was attracted by the chance to be around other people who share my interest in global affairs and also wanted to learn more about other people’s experiences abroad.
GC: What’s your favorite Global Communities memory, program, and/or class?
RS: My favorite memory is the trip to Chesapeake Bay because I love outdoor activities and it was a good opportunity not only to learn about the bay and the ecosystem, but also to go out canoeing and riding on a boat. Another good experience was going to the National Geographic Food Exhibition in DC and then having dinner at the Ethiopian restaurant, Dukem, which was delicious.
GC: Why should an International Student join Global Communities?
RS: Initially, I thought most people in Global Communities would be international students, and I was surprised that this wasn’t true. It is nice to get to know a range of people, both from within the country, and abroad. Living in Dorchester as opposed to other freshmen dorms on North Campus also has many benefits location-wise.
GC: What are you planning to do for your Global Experience?
RS: I’m planning on going to New Zealand over winter break for the Environmental Sustainability program. This program involves taking a 3-credit plant science (PLSC) course and includes visiting geothermal, hydropower, and wind farms, and staying overnight on the Kapiti Island among other things.
