Make Winter-Term a Meaningful Adventure!
El Salvador's Children: Risk, Poverty and Education
EDSP 488B /788B
CPSP 379E/LASC 448V
Join us in El Salvador this year for a really special winter-term experience!
What makes this short-term Education Abroad class special?
- It is focused on service and on helping children from economically marginalized, rural communities of El Salvador.
- You work in a small rural village and spend your time with children, families and others who work with them.
- You live with a village family.
- Spanish is not required -- but it is a GREAT opportunity to practice communicating with teachers, children and families.
As the number of children from Central America grows in U.S schools, more and more teachers, health providers, social workers, and school officials will have at least some children who come from El Salvador and other parts of Central America in their classroom or on their caseload. Whether you would like to learn more about this growing population, know how to serve them more effectively, be of service, or try out some Spanish, this winter term Education Abroad course may be for you.
If you are interested in getting a first hand experience with children and families from Central America, understanding the educational systems from which they come and/or improving your Spanish this trip provides a rare opportunity.
It is also perfect for anyone interested in community development, immigration, public health, education, children and families from Central America, or Latin American Politics.
