DESCRIPTION:
Shot by renowned filmmaker Werner Herzog, who gained exclusive access to film inside the Cave of Chauvet-Pont-d'Arc in southern France, Cave of Forgotten Dreams captures the oldest known pictorial creations of humankind in their astonishing natural setting. Dating from 32,000 years ago, these remarkable paintings depict unusual beasts, including rhinoceroses, lions, bears and woolly mammoths, along with horses and bison. Using sophisticated techniques, such as shading and perspective, these artists skillfully incorporated the contours of the caves into their drawings. Interviews with historians and scientists explore the nature of these early humans and attempt to connect with our pre-historical ancestors. Written, narrated and directed by Werner Herzog.
