Preserve Media Interviews on Asian Americans in the Maryland and DC Region

Ginny Gong is a former national President of the Organization of Chinese Americans, and has served as a national and local leader of the Asian Pacific American (APA) community since the 1980s. For almost 20 years, she also has been the host of a cable television show in Montgomery County, Maryland that focuses on local and national APA issues.  By interviewing APA leaders and newsmakers, “Ginny’s… Where East Meets West” has captured the histories and personalities of almost 300 APAs, including many who are no longer living.  As a result, her program serves as a valuable resource for future scholars interested in the APA community, both in the DC metro area and nationwide.

A team of interns will help to preserve this unique and meaningful history. Key responsibilities:

1.       Review the approximately 150 shows, and write a short summary of each interview.

2.       Create a tagging system so that future researchers can sort the interviews by topics such as immigration and voting rights, or other factors such as location, nation of origin, or a specific piece of legislation.

3       Upload copies of the interviews to website and transfer the earlier VHS tapes to DVD format (equipment available)
