Duties will include general administration, correspondence, social media, translation, basic editing, and input on creative and strategic questions.
Red Poppy is a registered 501(c)3 dedicated to promoting the power of Latin American literature to foster social consciousness. Towards this, our two major projects right now include a multilingual anthology of Latin American "Poetry In Resistance,” to be published by MadHat Press in 2017, and continued work on our documentary-in-progress, “Pabl o Neruda: The People’s Poet”.
For the right student, we will also compensate with a small stipend for time contributed beyond those credit hours. If the fit is right, there will be an opportunity to take on larger responsibilities, commit more hours, receive a small salary, and eventually even take on a leadership role.
Ideal for students studying literature, political science, communication, marketing and film. Besides gaining experience in the different areas listed above, you’ll have inside exposure to the makings of a feature documentary, already with backing from Latino Public Broadcasting and much more, with over 20,000 likes on Facebook; you’ll be part of a book that will be on shelves and classrooms next year; and you’ll experience the inner workings of a truly grassroots organization. If all goes right, the film will be on PBS and shown around the world. You’ll be a part of it, you’ll have your name in the credits. And that might just be the start. Based in DC near Dupont Circle, Red Line accessible, though the majority of the work can be done from home. Fluency in Spanish is required. Responsibility, creativity and a passion for poetry are key. Gracias.
UMD credits are also available for your work, from 1-6 credits ( for info, contact LASC Director Laurie Frederik, Lfred@umd.edu).
Students - This employer is looking to fill this position ASAP. It is an excellent opportunity. Contact me if you are interested in either the internship or both internship and UMD credits and I will put you in touch with the director of Red Poppy. Please send along your CV and a letter that explains your interest and qualifications.
