Marketing and Communications Assistant Job with Fairtrade America

Fairtrade America is the independent, non-profit organization behind the FAIRTRADE Mark, a product label assuring consumers that their purchase helps disadvantaged farmers and workers in developing countries secure a better deal. We seek a committed communications and marketing assistant with strong cause-related expertise, to join our growing team.

The Marketing and Communications Assistant will be responsible for a wide variety of duties including assisting with meetings and special events, media monitoring and reporting, supporter list maintenance, website and newsletter content creation, assistance with retail marketing campaigns and tracking and reporting of Fairtrade's impact in producer communities.

Specific Responsibilities

§ Monitoring, tracking, disseminating and filing media clips

§ Using database and PR software, create and maintain updated lists of reporters and stakeholders

§ Utilize databases to track and report on impact of Fairtrade in producer communities

§ Presentation support, including creation of PPT decks for business development and education purposes

§ Content creation for website and blog

§ Monitor resources available through international Fairtrade system

§ Support events including webinars, meetings, grassroots community events, producer tours, visits to producer countries, trade shows and other events

§ Represent Fairtrade America at community and retail events

§ Manage volunteer interns

§ Carry out additional assignments as requested

§ Some travel required

Qualifications:

§ Bachelor's degree; one year of previous marketing/communications experience or internships strongly preferred

§ Knowledge of or demonstrated interest in fair trade issues

§ Excellent interpersonal, writing and verbal skills are required

§ Ability to work well with a wide range of people, under pressure in a fast-paced environment

§ Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously with close attention to detail

§ Good computer skills are required, including familiarity with database and spreadsheet programs

§ An excellent and meticulous organizer

§ Flexible, creative team player willing to willing to step into whatever task is required to get the job done

§ Knowledge and commitment to Fairtrade and development issues desired

§ The Marketing and Communications Assistant will report to the Event and Outreach Manager and Marketing and Communications Manager

§ Spanish language proficiency desired
